Information About Cuticle Cream

A cuticle cream is an important part of nail care, which ensures that our nails remain healthy. This article briefly explains what exactly is a cuticle, how does a cuticle cream affect it, what are the ingredients that are present in the cream, and some popular brands of the same.
The human cuticle is a layer of dead skin cells, which seals the nails. It plays a vital role in protecting and maintaining healthy nails. The process of the nail matrix formation takes place under this thin layer of skin. Cuticles also protect the nails from various fungal and bacterial infections. Despite their huge role in the process of nail care, they are barely considered to be an important part of the body. For protection of our nails and to ensure utmost fingernail health, we need to take proper care of our cuticles as well.

Our nails are often ignored while we perform daily skin care routines. As they are not properly looked after, they turn dry and tear apart easily. Since they are dry and malnourished, they not only make a negative impact on the overall appearance, but also affect the fingernail health and lead to nail fungus and problems like brittle nails. To avoid all these ordeals, we must always keep the cuticles moisturized and soft. Application of the cream is an easy thing that everyone can try!

Cuticle Cream
It is different than the hand creams and moisturizers. It benefits the torn and broken cuticles and helps them get back in their natural form. Use of this cream is very important for the fingernail health, as well as the overall health of the person. A torn cuticle is an open invitation for various types of fungus and bacteria. Such creams are purposefully made using some of the best skin care products that moisturize the cuticles as well as the nails. Some of the ingredients include, healthy essential oils, vegetable oils, and fruit extracts which help us get healthy cuticles.

Along with the above mentioned ingredients, it also consists of healthy skin nourishing vitamins like vitamin E and vitamin C. These vitamins act as a natural protective shield for any external damage to the cuticles. Other ingredients include, chemical formulations like petrolatum, mineral oil, SD Alcohol 39-C, methylparaben, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1, sorbic acid, 3-Diol, propylene glycol, and dehydroacetic Acid. These chemicals are combined with some natural skin care products like lanolin, beeswax, honey, almond oil, chamomile oil, calendula oil, olive oil, and some of the essential herbs like lavender, sage, thyme, green tea, rose hips, burdock, and herbs of hopes, etc.

Homemade Cream
Those of you who don't want to buy them off the market shelves, can always make one at home. There are a few simple recipes that you can try at home and make your own cream within a few minutes.
  • Honey and Lemon Juice: Mix together 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of honey and soak your fingers in it for 15 minutes. Rinse them off with cold water and pat them dry!
  • Lanolin and China Clay: Mix together 2 tablespoons of China clay and 3 teaspoons of lanolin. Apply this paste on the cuticles, before going to sleep. Do not wash it immediately, instead, leave it on overnight. Wash it off the next morning.
  • Glycerin and Petroleum Jelly: Mix together 2 teaspoons of petroleum jelly and ½ teaspoon of glycerin. Apply this mixture on the cuticles, before going to sleep. Do not wash it immediately.
In my opinion, the best cream is any essential oil that you can get! Trust me! All you need to do is to find a good oil like olive oil or almond oil and apply it on your clean hands! Essential oils work great as a cuticle cream.

You may take additional precautions like getting regular manicures and pedicures, at least once a month! Have a balanced diet and drink plenty of water, so that the cuticles get adequate nourishment from within.
