With a few materials and these easy step-by-step instructions, you can create this fun look at home. For this look, you will create an ombre chevron design.
Materials needed
- Base coat and top coat polish
- Polish colors of your choice
- White polish
- Nail file
- Makeup sponge
- Chevron nail vinyls
- Tweezers
Step one: File your nails
Use a nail file to create your desired shape. File the corners of the nail to create a rounded look. Square the edges and file straight across the free edge for a squared-off look. File the nail in the same direction each time to prevent damage to the free edge.
Step two: Apply the base coat
Apply a clear base coat to each nail. The base coat gives the polish a clean and even canvas to adhere to.
Step three: Apply white polish for chevron stripes
Apply the white polish to each nail. This is the color of your chevron stripes. If you want different colored stripes, use the desired color in this step. Let the polish dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step four: Place chevron nail vinyls
Use the tweezers to carefully place the chevron vinyls onto each nail. Starting at the top of the nail, place each vinyl the same distance apart as you move down the nail. This will create the chevron stripes.
Step five: Apply other colors to your chevron nail design
In this step, you can choose to use one other color polish for your background. To create the ombre design, mix your colors onto a makeup sponge. Create horizontal stripes back-to-back on the makeup sponge of three to four different colors. These shades need to flow together and generally go from light to dark in order to create an ombre color scheme. When the combination of colors is complete, carefully press the makeup sponge onto the nail. Let the polish dry for a minute and delicately remove the chevron vinyls.
Step Six: Apply the top coat
Apply a clear top coat to each nail. The top coat protects the polish from any damage and prolongs the wear time.
Show off your new creative skills with this simple design. This easy technique gives your at-home manicure a glamourous touch without having to step foot into a nail salon.
